Gert-Jan Monteny works within Wageningen University and Research Centre as leader of a research program on gaseous emissions from agriculture. This program is financed by the Dutch ministry of agriculture, nature and food quality, and is a part of a large R&D cluster on manure and nutrient losses. His role in EAGER is to coordinate the Dutch input, as well as communication of results from the research program, including data on emission measurements on housing systems, storages, and slurry application.

Modeling of nutrient dynamics in farming systems, especially dairy farms. Emission of ammonia and other forms of nitrogen loss from the farming system impose a burden on the environment and represent lost production potential. The mission of my group is to develop sustainable and profitable dairy farming systems. We use the model FARMMIN 1) to assess the current situation, 2) to explore the impact of proposed legislation, and 2) to evaluate innovative scenarios.
